Rosalie Miller

Rosalie Miller moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1973.  In 1975, she cofounded and directed Women Unlimited, which included a women’s center, a bookstore (WomanStore, then Amelia’s), and a newspaper (WomaNews).  She coorganized the Southeastern Women’s Health Conference, held in Gainesville, in 1976.

As a professor of Occupational Therapy, Rosalie Miller developed in Florida and Georgia several graduate programs in the field.  In 1991, she cofounded Lavender Menace, a women’s sports and events league in Gainesville. In 2018, she joined the planning and organizing committee for a month-long celebration of women in March 2020.  After eighteen months of work on this, on March 13, 2020, everything was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fortunately, the magazine, Celebrate Women 2020: Celebrating 100 years of Women Voting and Gainesville’s Historic Role in the Modern Women’s Movement, was printed before the shutdown. It is available by request from rojomil13@gmail.com.
