Suzanne Pharr

Suzanne Pharr, born in 1939, Southern, queer feminist and antiracist worker, founded the Women’s Project in 1981 with the goal of eliminating sexism and racism through dismantling systems of violence and economic injustice. Since late 1970s, her approach to social change work has been to analyze oppressions as both systemic and intersectional in their makeup and impact, as well as to develop strategies that are inclusive of all affected.

Suzanne Pharr’s work has been with multiracial, multi-issue organizations. She is a cofounder of Southerners on New Ground (SONG). She is the first woman director of the Highlander Center, a historic, civil rights organization based in New Market, Tennessee. She is a founding member of the Southern Movement Assembly.
