Dorothy (Cookie) Teer

Southern Sisters, Inc.: Women in Print, a Feminist Outpost

Dorothy “Cookie” Teer, born in 1941, and raised in Durham, North Carolina, in a privileged family. Cookie came to feminism through the antipornography movement. She was good friends with the prominent, antipornography activist, Andrea Dworkin. In the 1980s and 1990s, Cookie traveled the country with a slide show, raising awareness about how pornography oppresses and damages women.

Cookie Teer was the primary financial backer of the bookstore,Southern Sisters, throughout its history. Since 1996, Cookie has been a real estate agent.
