Marie Steinwachs
Marie Steinwachs grew up in Florida, coming “late” to Southern feminism after a successful environmental career in Missouri that focused on minimizing waste. She pioneered efforts to eliminate mercury from consumer products, and she received numerous state and national awards.
Returning to Florida in 2014, Marie Steinwachs was introduced to the world of lesbian-activism herstory through meeting the Gainesville area dykes, where she met Corky Culver. They married in 2019.
Marie Steinwachs jumped in with enthusiasm to assist with the Southern Lesbian Feminist Activist Herstory Project. She lives with Corky in a log cabin built in 1935 on a lake in North Central Florida.
