Tribute to Doris Davenport from Her Beloved Nephew — What I’ll Miss More Than Anything: The Smile in Your Voice Every Time
by Judson Matos
There could be a million ways to say something, to express a feeling or show how much you care. I don’t really need them all, never needing more than a few words even though we could talk for hours. Man, did we talking talk, sometimes one of us cutting the other off, having to run, or not needing that big of a distraction.
Iām going to miss those talks, the sometimes small ramblings or hours-long conversations about superheroes, Black Panther, or whoever. Talking about music, Jimi Hendrix or the Beatles, and the arts, oh, how we could go on. Having a movie to ramble on about, or a series that we couldn’t stop watching. Sometimes just going on about how cool it was to see all the movies or shows together and to compare notes.
The excitement in your voice whenever we’d talk about things and the energy in your responses. We clicked with so many things, matching each other and just getting it.Ā
What I’ll miss more than anything: the smile in your voice every time. I can go on and on about how I feel and why and what’s going to hurt and how often. But in the end, it doesn’t matter, does it? That’s not what I’m here for, what We are here for, at this moment. We’re here for you, to share our words and thoughts and to let them flow from us and add this energy to yours.
